Ulta, Ulta, Ulta--Sale, Sale, Sale!
You can imagine the surprising shock I experienced when I waltzed into my local Ulta today to pick some hair product up and saw a sign that said: "Ulta Nail Lacquers $2."
I literarlly dialed 3 people immediately to tell them. Ulta product is pretty good--it's not as great as Sephora brand merchandise, but at $2 a pop you can't beat that!
I was pining for some dark nail color to finish the winter out with and I always love a bright red on my toes. Here we have "Ruby Slipper" (how apropos) and "Chocolate Kiss."
How much longer will I be able to get away with wearing dark colored nails before I have to transition to the light "Spring" colors??

United Estates of Madge
This week was a two day estate sale weekend. Double the fun! And a big spending weekend too--only because I know I will be working all next weekend.
BCF and I went yesterday to a sale that broadcasted the fact that they had vintage rosaries, and knowing my obsession with the Holy Communion of Saints, I really didn't want to risk the chance of some other person with crazy obsessions to scoop them up. We diligently made our way to the sale (through a series of torrential downpours may I add) thinking, "Oh we will be the first ones here."
WRONG, sir, wrong! I'm talking we had to park like a half a mile away. It was a freaking nut house, with no flow of traffic what-so-ever. It was a clusterfuck of unorganized chaos.
Immediately as we walked through the door I spotted the jewelry case, attempted to b-line for it, and saw some lady scoop up ALL rosaries. My heart sank; I just wanted to give up. But being a meticulous shopper, I started digging and came across some fabulous holy medals to add to my holy medal charm bracelet.

"Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to thee."
The next stop was the room with all the accessories. I was trying to find some "coffin gloves" for Babs, but came across these cream colored ones that fit like a dream.
They have some amazing button detail, when they are worn, the fabric stretches a wee bit so you are able to see the slightest amount of flesh in-between the button flaps. Simply divine!
It was in this same room that I scored the second best find of the day. A totally vintage alligator skin hat box.
The best score of the entire weekend, I would say, came from the study. In the corner lay this beat up suitcase that was being used a shelving unit for some books--BCF pointed it out and how perfect it would be for my suitcase side table.
It has a leather strap that keeps it sealed, but the most fascinating part is the stamps...when I got home I was cleaning up all my purchases when I noticed the section with stamps.
Upon further inspection the stamps date back to 1820 and 1861.
Shout out to BCF who nearly lost her mind the madness of the check out line. Here she is holding my purchases and teetering on sanity...
I was all by my lonesome on Day 2. I actually went out with a specific "look" to duplicate. I'm trying to design a reading nook in my master bedroom and had several pieces that I wanted to pick up, i.e. a chair, books, boxes, nick-knacks, etc. I even came prepared with dimensions for the chair. Proper planning prevents poor performance, peeps!
Needless to say, I did not find a chair that fit my specifications. However found some books with great bindings to put on the shelves/read.
We've got "Jenny" by Ada Cook Lewis, "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy, and "Scarlett the Sequel to Gone With the Wind" by Alexandra Ripley
Babs and I went to the Margaret Mitchell House over Christmas holiday, and in the interactive section of the house they have a typewriter set up so you can see what it was like for M.M. to write GWTW. Bab's has an enchantment for typewriters like no one else. She sat there for 20 minutes and taught all these young kids who had never used, let alone seen a typewriter, how to type on one. One tour would end and everyone would stand around her typing away like it was no one's business...quite a site to hold.
So at the second sale I found a sweet baby blue Smith-Corona typewrite in excellent condition with a case for Babs.
At the final sale I bought a necklace that compliments the new clutch, oh so well. It was in need of some TLC, but the clasp had me at hello. I plan on wearing it with the clasp to the side since it's such a great focal point, it's the large circular pearl.
To carry out my vintage Spring/Summer 2010 look, I aquired this lovely 1940's Ande' leather purse with a gold chain for handles.
Total spent by Madge: $45

Patterns, Prints, and All Things Pretty
Even though it may not feel like it yet, Spring/Summer 2010 is peeking right around the corner. The thunderstorms we experienced today further confirmed this fact; and what's better to do when it's nasty outside? Shop!
I ventured to my slice o' heaven and picked up some new accessories for my "Posh Vintage Patterned Pallet" for this upcoming season.
A birdseye view of retail heaven.
It started with this portfolio--I instantly fell in love with it. God knows I need another portfolio, but the love for things to do lists and the lovely Indian paisley print justified the purchase.
Next came the wristlet/clutch--perfect for "Posh Vintage Patterned Pallet"
And finally, the purchase of the day. Jackie O. would be oh so proud of my uber large, pretty, blue shades.
Needed: Cute spring dresses to complete look.
Thursday Tune-age
Originally was supposed to be posted yesterday, Thursday, however obviously did not make it. But ahhh--congrats on making it to Friday! This is what I have been jamming out to this week. Enjoy!

Bless Our Broken Home...
Tonight I had the privilege of watching one of my old school favorite movies, The Parent Trap, thank you TCM. Not the Lindsanity version, were talking Haley Mills and Maureen O'Hara.
It's was interesting to watch this classic now as an adult and observed a few "new tid bits."
1. Was camp really like this at one point in time? Uniforms? Mess halls? Bunkmates with names like Betsy and Ursula? Demerits?
2. Annette Funicello, I heart you.
3. The dresses at the Camp Thunderhead dance are a-mazing. If I could only wear dresses like that on a daily basis.
4. Really, as punishment they are going to put the two of you in a lone cabin together? I highly doubt this disciplinary action would be taken so lightly in present day. And what up with everyone following you, whistling, and swinging their arms. Still don't get that.
5. To switch places is a scathingly brilliant idea--and for two 13 year olds to concoct such a plan amazes me. But for Sharon to chop her lovely locks for said plan...wow, that takes guts.
6. I still believe the Dad is incredibly handsome and that house in Cali, stunning.
7. Maureen O'Hara fabulous, absolutely fabulous.
8. "Who is this ecstatic, bright-eyed, child? This angelic girl? You're an adorable thing." - Edna Robinson
9. You two bust up your Dad's future marriage--and he's not the least bit angry? He just sits on the counter sipping some liquor? Geez, wish my Dad was like that back in the day.
10. Still love the ending, when Mom and Dad are getting married--and Sharon and Susan are the bridesmaids...ahh if only life were so sweet!

Stick Families
There's no escaping them-they have infiltrated towns across America. Odds are you've seen one; perhaps in a mall parking lot or driving down the road.
I'm talking about "stick family" window decals. You've got Dad, Mom, Johnny, Susie-- complete with Baxtar the dog and Fluffy the cat. And if you are truly lucky, you'll be informed of their last name and what sports their kids may play.
I get it, you're proud of your perfect frickin' family and feel it's necessary to broadcast it across the back of your Honda CRV.
But what about those individuals that don't qualify for a stick fam? What about those peeps (like Madge) who have made lifestyle choices to further their career? What about the eccentric types? Or the single ladies--do they get a stick? What would Beyonce say?
During a mid-morning conference call that had no information pertaining to me--I decided to draft some of my "dysfunctional stick figure" prototypes...

On a side note--if you live in a state like the Peach or the Sunshine State, where the county you reside in is listed on your license plate; you may want to shy away from having such a personal stick fam. I'm talking to you lady with the Tahoe and very unique last name, that usually parks on the 5th floor, with 3 kids, a husband, and 2 dogs, and lives in a county not far from where we work. To me--you are setting yourself up to be on MSNBC's "How to Catch a Predator." And frankly, if you've watched the show you don't want any of those crazies or the host, Chris Hansen, in your life.
On a second side note--Imagine what the Duggar family stick family would look like...
